Mononcle Michel is your grumpy-but-lovable AI uncle who refuses to speak English. He uses real Québécois expressions — icitte, faque, pantoute, c'est l'fun — and corrects you when you sound like a tourist.

Why we built this

Québécois French is one of the most underserved accents in language learning. Apps like Duolingo teach Parisian French. Textbooks teach formal French. But if you actually visit Montréal, Québec City, or Chicoutimi — nobody talks like that.

We built MononcleAI because we believe the best way to learn a language is to speak it, every single day, with someone who talks like a real person — not a textbook.

How it works

Each session is a 5-minute voice conversation powered by OpenAI's real-time speech AI. Mononcle leads the conversation, corrects your mistakes in character, and adapts to your level automatically.

You choose a topic — food, daily life, Quebec culture, or even grammar drills — and Mononcle takes it from there. No typing, no multiple choice. Just talk.

If you're a beginner, Mononcle uses simpler vocabulary, speaks slower, gives you choices, and helps you with English when you're stuck. If you're advanced, he challenges you with rapid joual, complex grammar like "tu le veux-tu?", and Quebec-specific cultural references.
